Learn German by practicing in German
You have tried. Vocabulary lists, an app with a streak, a course that started well. You know a lot of words, and when someone speaks to you, you freeze. It was never your discipline. It was the route: you learned every German word through English, and that is the route that stalls when you have to answer fast.
Tulbrain is where you practice what you are already studying. In Languages, the first module, every German word arrives with a picture and a sound. Take «Wasser»: you see the picture, you hear the word, and nothing else. English is still there, underneath, as a check. It is not what you build on.
How you practice German in Tulbrain
Three things, and nothing else to learn: Learn, Train and Play.
- Learn. Short lessons by level, A0 to C2. Every word has its picture and its German audio. Lesson 1 of each level is open; the rest open in order.
- Train. Vocabulary with the translation shown or hidden (your call), writing, listening and pronunciation: you hear the word and you say it. Nobody grades you; the microphone is for practice, not recording.
- Play. Match the picture, memory pairs, hangman and word search, with the same words you are studying. Play is not the reward for learning. It is one way of practicing.
What you practiced comes back later, without you going back to the list.
Where the work is
Reading and writing in German take deliberate work, and we say so. What Tulbrain makes easy is the rest: daily exposure to German, in context, without translating first.

How do I learn German as a beginner? Start at A0: everyday words with picture and sound, in short lessons. In Tulbrain, all of A0 and the start of A1 are free.
Can I learn German at home, without a course? You can practice at home every day. Tulbrain does not replace your course or your teacher: it is where you practice what you are already studying.
How long does it take to learn German? It depends on where you start and how much you practice each week. We will not promise you a timeline, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
Is German hard to learn? It has a reputation. Tulbrain does not make it easy; it makes it daily: picture, sound, and the word, level by level from A0.
Is it an alternative to Duolingo? It is a different thing. Tulbrain does not teach through translation or streaks. It is a tool for practicing in the language, and Languages is its first module. Tulbrain is more than a language app.
